A new startup company called “Five Loaves and Two Fish” needed a tool to manage their food inventory. It was vital that it was useable by a small team of people who had never handled inventory before. It also had to meet the standards required by the Ministry of Environment and Food of Denmark. The final major feature was that it should work on both laptops and mobile devices.
I ended up making the inventory management system as a web app build with Laravel. When working away from a computer, an employee could connect a small barcode scanner to their phone via micro USB and use that to register food. Because everything was online, they could view and edit the inventory from anywhere which was something they were very pleased about.
