Game Prototyping – China

From the 05-07-2019 to the 20-07-2019 I was in Shanghai China with Mikkel Lodahl as part of Northern Lights. The year before I was part of a very similar project at Shanghai Tech University. You can read more about that project here.

The first week I assisted Mikkel as he introduced the students to game design theory and tools. I also taught game prototyping, Twine, and Game Maker Studio 2.

The second week I was alone and started the practical part of the course. The students worked together in assigned groups of 2 where they had to make a prototype in Game Maker Studio 2. The game had to express something cultural. Each day I had two review meetings with each group where I was making sure the development was moving forward and answering questions. At the end of the week, each group showcased the prototype in front of the rest of the class. They received 30-45 minutes of verbal feedback and 2 pages of written feedback.
